  • to conduct a visual inspection of the bearing on scratches, cracks, metal flacking, corrosion, etc.
  • to shake the outer ring of the bearing from side to side, check the presence / absence of a strong backlash and noise;
  • to check the ease of rotation of the bearing.

Bearing should not have a significant backlash, and the ring must rotate freely without jamming and background noise. Defective bearings must be replaced.

Front bearing generator checking is made somewhat differently, since it is located in the front cover, with one hand you have to maintain a pulley, and with the other - shake the front cover from side to side. If there is jamming when rotating,  too tight turns or there is a backlash - a bearing has to be replaced. Car manufacturers, due to the breakdown of the front bearing generator, it is recommended to replace completely the front cover, as bearing is pressed in it. But, price of one bearing is significantly lower than in the assembly with the cover because it’s mainly get out from the cover and change separately.

If during the diagnosis of the front and rear bearing, backlash is in the order, than the bearing should be removed, rinsed in petrol and greased before installing. After this, bearing can be placed back.
