A rod end is a bearing assembly consisting of a spherical plain bearing pressed into a rod end housing.
The range of their use is very wide, from drive shaft tips, hydraulics, power fitness equipment to aircraft wing mechanization.
The advantage of ball screws is that they are very easy to maintain, have a high degree of wear resistance and can be quickly and easily attached to interacting parts.
For use in corrosive environments, you should select ball joints made of stainless steel.
- Steel/Steel (re-lubricated, can be covered with plastic type - 2RS) - for use with large rotary movements;
- Steel/Brass, Bronze alloy (re-greased) - for axial loads
brass - for axial loads;
bronze - for high impact and variable loads in radial and axial directions. Advantageous in situations where high speeds and large rotational movements are required.
- Steel/PTFE (injection molded sliding layer with PTFE (fluoroplastic lining) between housing and inner ring. The bearing is relatively insensitive to contamination, maintenance-free and can be replaced together with the housing) - for use with small rotary movements, at low speeds and under shock loads.
- Steel/PTFE composite (maintenance-free) - for use with high one-way loads.
In the case of constant steel-on-steel friction, they require a constant supply of lubricant. The first lubrication should be performed after the part is installed. But the lubrication interval depends on external and mechanical influences during operation. This is a fairly popular group, designed for shock, oscillatory or static loads of various values.
A broader group that is used when it is technically impossible to provide a constant supply of lubricant, so they use a combination of sliding surfaces where steel interacts with a polymeric material (PTFE). Also, their function is to support those structures with significant loads, with their constant directionality, while most often there is a low sliding speed.
